The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), on Thursday, released the timetable for election in the 18 local government areas of the state. The election, according to the commission, is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. The Chairman of EDSIEC, Justice James Oyomire (Rtd.), who stated this in the Notice of Election signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Peter.O. Ojo Esq., and made available to journalists in Benin City, said that the commission would meet with political parties on Monday, March 28, 2022. The Commission said the conduct of party primaries will be between March 30 and April 6, 2022, while the publication of notice of polls at the ward collation centres will be on April 11, 2022. The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Friday, graduated a new batch of about 3, 000 teachers, comprising of Progressive Primary School teachers, Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers and successful EdoSTAR Fellowship candidates, following a six-week intensive training and capacity building. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, sacked Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Deputy, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. The court, in a judgement that was delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo, held that the total number of 393, 042 votes governor Umahi secured during the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Ebonyi state, belonged to the PDP and same could not be legally transferred to the APC. According to the court, having defected to the APC, both Umahi and his deputy, not only jettisoned the PDP, but also the votes that belonged to it.
