It came to us with rude shock and trepidation this week when we heard that one of our honourable members, Mr. Isaiah, was shot on the leg without provoking the said assailant where he went to celebrate with well-wishers in Benin City over the recent court victory on the matter concerning the Edo State PDP Executives.

We categorical condemn this dastardly act in all ramifications as it has no place in democracy. We are in the 21st century where issues are discussed and deliberated based on ideological preferences, not savages that carry cudgel and guns prowling streets looking to shoot those who oppose their views.

We call on the security agents, in collaboration with the state government, to fish out these perpetrators to face the law without delay. Edo State is a society governed by laws and we cannot allow it to fall into the hands of non-state actors who are intolerant of other's political perspectives and inclinations. All hands must be on deck to protect the sanctity of lives and properties in Edo State. Today, it is Mr. Isaiah, tomorrow, we are not sure if it's not going to be any of us with opposing views.

Let the government and security agents rise to the occasion to arrest, prosecute and punish the villains as to set it as a deterrent for other would-be gun-totting non-state actors.
