The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State has suffered a political tsunami as the party's Local Government Chairman, Hon. Frank Adeyemi and his Vice, Abiaku Samuel, led other executive council members, to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Edo State Government has commiserated with the family of DSP Michael Adams, who lost his life during a successful rescue operation of some of the victims of a kidnap incident at Igueben Local Government Area of the state. The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who led other top government functionaries and security officers to the home of late DSP Adams on Airport Road, Benin City, condoled with the family and expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident. He noted that the late DSP Adams was a gallant officer, whose exploits are worthy of commendations and emulation. “All the heads of security agencies are here. We are grieving. The Rivers Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly impregnating 10 ladies. The suspect, Noble Uzuchi, was nabbed with his accomplice, Chigozie Ogbonna, 29. According to the authorities, the two suspects and two other ladies, Favour Bright and Peace Alikoi, were allegedly running a baby factory.  Rivers Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, said the arrests were carried out following a tipoff. In a statement, Iringe-Koko stated the four suspects operated in the Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre local government areas of the state before their arrest. Professor Ibrahim Garba, and Ibrahim Shehu Usman, former Vice Chancellor and Bursar respectively of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria were today arraigned before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court on an eight count charge bordering on theft and money laundering to the tune of over N1billion by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The arraignment followed months of discreet investigation triggered by a petition accusing the duo of diverting monies meant for the renovation of the popular Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria.  The investigation established that  over one billion Naira was allegedly stolen from different accounts of the institution by the defendants and diverted into their private accounts.

In the video, the man, who held the baby in his arms, pushed the substance into the baby’s mouth intermittently after grabbing a puff. A female was heard in the background laughing as the man carried on with the act. The now-viral video has continued to generate widespread outrage on social media platforms. Many condemned the action and called on relevant government agencies to ensure the man is brought to book. The Calabar Division of the Court of Appeal has delivered judgment in appeal No. CA/C/337/22, filed by Senator John Ewa against the APC, INEC and Senator Bassey Otu. The court affirmed Senator Prince Bassey E. Otu as the authentic APC Governorship candidate for the upcoming 2023 General elections. The Edo State Government has said it has received only N2.1 billion from the N28bn that accrued to the state as 13 percent oil derivation fund for oil producing states. Edo State Commissioner for Budget and Finance, Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the weekly Executive Council (EXCO) meeting chaired by Governor Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House in Benin City. The Commissioner noted that N1 trillion was established for oil producing states and a distribution methodology was adopted by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), adding that N28bn accrued to the state and will be paid in 5 years of 20 tranches. He said, “The net amount will come to each state for over five years in 20 tranches. Each year, you will have quarterly remittances, which is four releases each year for over five years. The Edo State Government on Wednesday, announced that following the recovery of government land at Irhirhi-Obazagbon-Ogheghe area of the state, the enumeration and capture of victims data, it was discovered that the sum of N1.5 billion was collected by land grabbers in the locality between 2020 to 2022. It therefore, reiterated its resolve to put an end to the illegal act by retrieving the whopping sums of money for the restitution of the 499 victims that had been identified by the verification committee saddled with that responsibility. The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has inaugurated a Special Police unit to check activities of land grabbers in the state.
