*ETSAKO CENTRAL CONSTITUENCY 2023*: *HON LAWANI AZEGBEOBOR DAMIAN, THE INCUMBENT TO BEAT ?*

With the growing fever of the 2023 general elections drawing nearer on daily basis to determine who represent the good people of Etsako Central Constituency in the hallow chamber of Edo State House of Assembly in 2023, the maneuvering of election victory via electioneering campaigns in the  various electoral wards that make up Etsako Central constituency to occupy seat in the hallow chamber have taken the center stage.

The social media groups have become the medium used by the hired suspecting opposition media aides to insults and abuse political leaders, public officers, candidates and their supporters who are not in their campaign camps.

Some have indulged in anti-party activities to run down other survived candidates for the mere fact that their principals lost out from their party primary elections or just for mere hatred, jealousy, envious, etc  rather than joining hands to market their own candidates for victory. 

But what is most worrisome is the contents of their campaign messages of hate being propagated by most of the hired media aides either directly or through their proxies. 

One name that has continually resonated and has become subject of discourse  is Hon (Barr) Lawani Azegbeobor Damian, former member, House of Assembly in Edo State between 2015 and 2019 and former Civil Commissioner for Youths, Sports & Special Duties in Edo State.

The discussions about him by both his supposedly party (PDP) members and the main opposition party APC in the LGA leaves much to be desired.

Despite the attacks on the incumbent legislator and his second term bid to the House of Assembly after his first successful tenure in office between June 2015 and June 2019, he has preferred to keep the calm and refused to join issues with his detractors.

This his singular attribute has drawn the attention of so many rational minds who are desirous to know why the talkings about Hon Damian Azegbeobor Lawani, who is one of the ranking PDP candidates in the State.

Could it be that he has more intimidating credentials than other candidates?

Or is it because he is getting more popular, influential and acceptable to his constituents based on his past intimidating track records of performances in Etsako Central Constituency and beyond while he was a state legislator?

Or could it be that his antecedents in the field of legal matters, legislative businesses, leadership and performances as a former civil commissioner in the state are their fears?

As a close observer, it has been noticed  most recently that the accusations of none attraction of projects to his ward 8 Ekperi III and few other communities while he was a legislator has become a tool for propaganda in the hands of those opposition haters. 

In my own view, these haters were not abreast with the duties of a legislator in the House, thereby lacking the basic knowledge for assessing what amounts to qualitative representation. 

It is worthwhile to say that their attacks/actions are diversionary tactics to deviate from discussing the main issues that bothers more on Etsako Central Constituency and on how to make it work better in the next four years than as it is today.

The unnecessary blackmailing should not be encouraged and be condemned in totality by us as it will not allow for the best amongst the lots of candidates to be identified, supported, and be voted for in the 2023 general elections.

As we began the electioneering campaigns, political parties and their candidates in Etsako Central Constituency should be educating the electorates on their plans for education, assistance in employment, improvement of our healthcare delivery system, infrastructural development, agricultural support programmes, social welfare schemes for the teeming aged and  youths in our society through vibrant and quality legislation which Hon (Barr) Damian Azegbeobor Lawani was known for.

We must guide against desperation, division of our people with ethnic, religious and family sentiments as it is God Almighty is the giver of power for whosoever He has anointed to represent His people after the 2019 debacle in Etsako Central Constituency where for four years they were left without  representation which has remained in illusion.

In the light of the foregoing, we urge the good people of Etsako Central Constituency  to shun politics of bitterness and to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship where necessary, shun hatred, sentiments, nepotism, god-fatherism, etc and exhibit the fear of God  by supporting and voting for humility, trustworthiness, experience, self initiative, boldness, popularity, qualitative leadership, past visible projects, etc which Hon Lawani Azegbeobor Damian possessed and represent.
