Health: PDP Edo North Senatorial Women Leader Commends Obaseki

The Edo North Senatorial Women Leader, Evangelist (Mrs) Maria Iseme Oisamoje, has commended the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, for reassuring elderly persons in the state of provision and access to quality health services. The governor who gave the assurance in the commemoration of this year's World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day, with the theme, 'Access to Justice', which is marked every June 15, by the United Nations and it's sisters organs around the world, expressed worry over the fatal impact of Coronavirus (Covid 19) on the ages population. "As a government that is concerned about welfare and well-being of the aged population, we have undertaken and employed nuanced strategies and reforms, especially in the service, to ensure that the elderly persons in the state no longer queue under the sun daily, lamenting over unpaid pensions and areas, as they now being paid as and when due, ' the governor said in part. 

Reacting to the reassurance, the Edo North Senatorial Women Leader, Evangelist Mrs Maria Evy-Iseme Oisamoje, commended the governor for putting these reforms in place to take care of the aged population. "I commend the Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, for this kind and thoughtful gesture. Most elderly men sometimes are still able to marry younger women that could take care of them, the case is not so for women because our culture frowns at it. And this eventually leaves some of the aged women without care. A visit to the elderly ward in UBTH will confirm this. I visited the hospital recently as part of my routine visitations to hospital to access the plights of the sick. I was shocked at the increased number of elderly women on admission who were either abandoned or neglected. Having seen this sorry state, I wish to appeal to the 'Wake and See' governor for intervention collaborating with the private sector and willing NGOs to help Felicitate Old People's Homes across the state," she said. She added that the Edo North Senatorial Women under her watch will continue to give support to the governor in any people-oriented project he is embarking on in the state.
