On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hrs, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmed Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight. Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular. He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport. May 30th, 2021.  The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, also popularly known as Mr. Projects, has flagged off the construction of the 17.2 kilometres long and 22.3 metres wide Saakpenwa-Bori-Kono dual carriageway. Three days later, Governor Wike again flagged off the Alo-Omagwa Road. Chief Dan Orbih joined him in both flag offs due to his position. According to Governor Wike, the flag-off of the project was in fulfillment of a promise made during the inauguration of phase one of the project, adding that having reconstructed the road from Saakpenwa up to Bori Town, it was proper to extend the same comfort and opportunities the road offered to the people in Kono Town. Governor Wike urged CCECC not to use the rainy season as excuse to delay delivering the project in 14 months as agreed, because both the contract and the money were signed and released during the rainy season.   The verdict of the Supreme Court on the certificate forgery case brought against me by the All Progressives Congress (APC), during the 2020 governorship election, is a vindication of the decision of God and the people of Edo State. The ruling puts to rest the diabolical controversy contrived by opposition elements over my credentials and puts to shame the individuals that sought to swindle Edo people with falsehood and lies in pursuit of pecuniary gains.  The judiciary has once again, demonstrated that it is willing and capable of defending our democracy. The Deputy Governor of Edo State Comrade Philip Shaibu, has described the Nigeria Judiciary as the referee of Nigria's Democracy through enforcement of the rule of law, to protect the minorities from the power of the majority, despite their attempts to tilt the playing field against the rules.  "The ruling of the Supreme Court today has shown that the Judiciary does not lack teeth. The owner of this car was shot dead in his car on his way to Uyo by a military man he granted a ride yesterday from Eleme junction in PH , to Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom state.  He thought this military man will help him through all the multiple check point along Ogoni Road I guess. The army man never new this car was tracked, a device that was duly activated by security operatives and he was  pick up at one hotel in Ukanafun LGA this morning.   The military hierarchy was at the state police headquarters today to pick him up for firstly, a  Court Marshal before handing him over to the police for prosecution .  I witnessed this process at Ikot Akpan Abia police headquarters today.  We need to be circumspect as we give lift to not just security men on the road but just anybody.   Some sad stuff, isn't it. ~ Mbet Okpongete

The Edo State Governor has said the decision to ban open grazing in the Southern part of the country will allow governments to deal with banditry as distinct from the business of herding cattle. Addressing journalists in Benin City, the governor said the ban will prevent clashes between farmers and herders and assist governments in checking the activities of bandits. He noted: “We have seen that banditry has been associated with herding of cattle but we also have the challenge that we need our protein sufficiency. Many people invest in the business and get some of the Northern folks who help in herding the cattle." A gang of Armed robbers have reportedly attacked the residences of Agboola Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and an Admin Officer, Abubakar Maikano within the premises of the Presidential Villa, Aso-Rock, Abuja.
