The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has called for increased synergy between the government and security agencies to tackle the proliferation of arms and combat insecurity in the state. The governor, who received the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya at the Government House in Benin City, on Tuesday, appealed for the setting up of military base in areas prone to kidnapping and armed robbery along Benin - Auchi Road. Obaseki also received the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, stating the need to set up a special squad to tackle arms build-up in Edo communities. The National Vice-Chairman of Nigeria’s main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, on Tuesday described the Petroleum Industry law recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari as not only insensitive but a brazen act of injustice. In a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen, Chief Orbih said that the President had stayed true to character by choosing to ignore the huge outcries of the people of the South-South over the meager allocation of three percent to the oil-bearing communities in the new law. A trained pilot, he conquered the air at an early age and set for the waters and land, building enterprises that distinguished him in the business world and embodied the hard work, perseverance, dexterity and acumen that espoused his Edo heritage. Okunbo was a philanthropist who gave lavishly of himself and his resources; thousands of Edo sons and daughters benefited from his charitable works and benevolence. Business magnate, Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo, is dead. He died of pancreatic cancer in London Sunday morning, He was aged 63. It was gathered that he was diagnosed with cancer last September.
